Very peacefully on Thursday morning, July 15, 2010, God in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved husband, father, grandpop, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin.

Nathaniel, affectionately known as Nate, Jimmy and Jitter-Bug was born to the late William and Gertrude Coaxum Brooks, in Savannah, GA on March 12, 1924.
Nathaniel was the second of five children. All of his siblings preceded him in death. He was educated in the Savannah Public School System.

As a young man Nathaniel followed his beloved sweetheart, Sarah Lee Williams to Philadelphia, PA in 1946. They settled in the South Philadelphia community where their love blossomed and on May 18, 1946, they were married in Elkton, MD. From this union three children were born. The romance continued for 64 years.

Nathaniel was employed by the Buckley Construction Company for over thirty years. He served diligently until his retirement. Nathaniel served as vice-chairperson of the Trustee Board at New Welcome Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. He was also a member of A.F. Keystone Lodge #24, Philadelphia, PA. Nathaniel was a life time member of Laborers' District Council of the Metro Philadelphia Local #135. Nathaniel was a good and loving person who cared about people. He especially loved his grandchildren and looked forward to holiday dinners, especially hiding Easter eggs for them to find.

A highlight for Nathaniel and his family was his baptism at the age of 50 years old. He was an excellent provider to his family. As a family man, he adored, supported and loved his family. Nathaniel shared himself with all, having smiles, laughter and sound advice for all those he encountered. Nathaniel was preceded in death by his son, Nathaniel Brooks, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a strong legacy of love, hope and dedication with joyous memories. His wife, Sarah, children Barbara Henderson(Gerald- deceased); Carl Brooks(Drena); six grandchildren, Terrelda Godwin (Adrian); Gerald Rasheed Henderson (Angela); Sharifah Brooks, Tarik Brooks, Zakk 'ee Brooks and Karima Kendall (Marcus); two great-granddaughters, Adriana and Aliyah Godwin. One sister-in-law, Bertha L. Beckett; two daughters-in-law, a special niece Hattie Minnis, god-daughter Mae D. McQueen, special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
