Keith Edward Cheek, Sr.

God gently called Keith, Sr. home to eternal life on 11/1/2009.
Keith was born in Camden, New Jersey where he attended and graduated from the Camden Public School System. Notably, in high school, he was an offensive left tackle, a position that made him a star football player. He gained the respect of his teammates and opponents both on and off of the field.

Keith continued his education at Cheyney and West Virginia State Universities as a Psychology major. His education coupled with life experiences would prepare him for his most cherished position as a Technician 2 at the Kennedy Health System's Behavioral Unit for Children. Keith had the ability to see the good in all of the children, no matter how challenging their behaviors. His compassion, empathy, and insight enabled him to reach those children that many had long ago given up on ever improving. He would go out of his way to find materials and supplies that would spark the interest of the children. Keith's commitment and efforts once earned him Employee of the Year and this accomplishment was a source of great pride for him.

But Keith would say that his greatest accomplishment in life was in being an outstanding family man. He met the love of his life, Hope, in 1984. He pursued her relentlessly until she said her "I do's" and became his wife on June 19, 1993. Life only became more fulfilling with the birth of their only child, Keith, Jr. on April 19, 1999. To be certain, Keith, Jr. will continue on with the lessons of kindness, gentleness, and manhood that his father instilled in him.

Keith was an attentive husband and father who loved to travel with his family in and out of the country. He was always prepared with an extensive itinerary and information as he always took the time to research prior to each trip as he wanted his family to have the best of times. Many good memories were made. Keith took advantage of the home court as well. He was involved in Keith, Jr.'s education, sports, and after school activities. He even began an after school Chess Club for his son and classmates.

A common thread through every aspect of Keith's life was that he touched so many lives through his kind words and deeds and most especially his courage.

Keith became ill in late July of 2009 with several hospitalizations until he yielded to voice of the Lord calling him home. In between hospitalizations, he continued to do the things that defined who he was….. family, travel, his son's sports, and work. In the words of 2 Timothy 4:7 [Keith] fought a good fight.

Keith was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Bowman. He leaves many to remember his love of music, the outdoors, the change of seasons, and most especially of his love of God and his family. His loving wife, Hope Cheek, his son, Keith Cheek, Jr. of Camden, NJ; his siblings, twin Kevin Lee Cheek, Sr., (Rosalind) of Virginia Beach, VA; Merritt Bowman of Deptford, NJ; Synee Diggs (Eric) of Laurel, Md; his parents-in-law, William and Barbara Corbin of Berlin, MD; his brothers-in-law, Van Kevin Corbin (Regina) of Leesburg, VA and Brian Keith Corbin (Sue) of Pittsburgh, PA; his special Aunt Emma Jones of Berlin, MD and a host of nieces and nephews will always hold the memories of Keith within their hearts.
