Gloria Atkinson Carter, 82, wife of the late William Carter, Sr., passed on Wednesday, March 03, 2010.

Born February 10, 1928 in Marple Township, Springfield, PA, she was the daughter of the later Bertha Contee Atkinson.

She attended schools in the Marple School District. Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wayne, PA where she was an active member. She sang on the church choir, member of the pastor's aide and praise and worship. She would lend a helping hand wherever needed. Recently, she was honored by her church for her faithful and loyal service.

Mrs. Carter enjoyed wrestling, bingo and sitting on the front porch. She cared for everyone. Like Jesus, "she never met a stranger, welcoming people in, feeding them, everybody's "Mom Mom".

She leaves to cherish her memories, four children, William Carter, Jr. (Quyen) of Devon, Charles Thomas Carter (Lynnette) of Phoenixville, James Edward Carter, Sr. of Paoli and Purcell J. Carter of Norristown; 20 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three brothers, George Atkinson of Maple, PA, Steven Atkinson of Philadelphia, and Donald Atkinson of Lima; three sisters, Catherine Atkinson, Pearl Atkinson, both of Philadelphia and Louise Atkinson of Kettering, OH, an aunt, Frances E. Taylor of Philadelphia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Two daughters, Shirley Carter and Martha Jane Carter preceded her in death.
